OVER a hundred runners all turned up to take part in the annual Warminster Plain Crazy run over the weekend.

The Plain Crazy run, that has taken place for the past six years, challenged people to run nearly 12 miles across the Salisbury Plain Training Area, tasking people to run a mixture of road, track and cross country.

Starting at 11am on Sunday (December 27) 110 runners turned up to take on the challenge, with some arriving from across the globe to take part.

Organiser Ted Wilson, 71 of Warminster, said: “The race went fine, we did get a winner in Ed Fazakerely who crossed the finish line in an hour and 16 minutes. We had 110 runners and everyone enjoyed it, there was a bit of confusion when it came to the right shoes to wear as you are tackling three terrains, but everything was fine.”

The Plain Crazy run is organised by the Warminster British Legion, raising money in aid of the Poppy Appeal.

“This is the sixth year that the race has been organised, over £1,000 was raised to donate to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. It takes a lot of organising, in fact I have to start organising next year’s race this week,” continued Mr Wilson.

The race attracts people from across the world, including countries like Finland, USA and even Indonesia.

Mr Wilson said: “We have one man who travels from Indonesia every year to take part, this will be the fourth time he has entered. He is from England but he lives over in Indonesia, so he spends Christmas in Bath and then takes part in the race.”

Results of the race will be posted on the Warminster British Legion website. To see the results visit www.warminsterbritishlegion.co.uk
