A GROUP of keen skateboarders from Warminster are campaigning for improvements to be made to the town’s skatepark.

The ‘Campaign 4 WarminsterSk8park’ campaign, set up by 14-year-old Ben Mitchell and his friends, has so far raised £10,000 of the £100,000 target, which will be used for maintenance work to be carried out and for new additions to the skatepark.

Ben, who attends Kingdown School, said: “The whole park is not in a good condition, especially the skatepark.

“Parents don’t want their children to skate because the ramps aren’t safe, so people who want to learn how to skateboard aren’t able to.

“The condition of the ramps is also stopping people who know how to skateboard from progressing and learning new tricks, as they are in such a bad state.

“There’s something wrong with every single ramp. Every time it rains, the space underneath the halfpipe becomes flooded, which means it can’t be used, and that’s only one example.

“We want more people to start skateboarding in Warminster but that won’t happen with the current skatepark.

“With the funding, we want improvements to be made to the current ramps and also for new things to be added which will make it more fun to use."

The campaign has raised £5,000 from the local youth network and £5,000 from the area board, and a Facebook page has been set up to keep members updated of the latest developments.
