PUB landlords in the Warminster area are living in fear, after three pubs were raided in one day.

As Natalie Dew and her partner Lee Strong slept in their bedroom above the Yew Tree pub in Boreham Road, Warminster, early on Saturday morning, the building was broken into by two men who stole £700 from the till.

The landlords captured CCTV images of the two men, which they published on the pub's Facebook page, which clearly shows them trying to get into the pub and then, once inside, raiding the till behind the bar.

Miss Dew said: “It’s really frightening to know that they were in our house and actually came upstairs where we were sleeping.

“We’re only a small pub and it’s sometimes hard to pay the bills, so £700 is a massive amount to us and will affect the business. It’s heart-breaking as we have worked so hard to get the pub up and running and then something like this happens.

“Lee and I are both very stressed, annoyed and frightened but we’re also both very thankful that neither of us were harmed – it could have been far worse.

“It’s a really horrible feeling. I burst into tears when I saw the CCTV images for the first time. I don’t feel safe in my own home now, it feels like we’ve been targeted.”

Two other pubs in the Warminster area were targeted on the same day.

Further down the Wylye Valley a safe, which contained no money, was stolen from The Swan Inn, Warminster Road in Stoford, at around 8.15am.

That evening police were contacted after it was discovered that nearly £2,500 had been stolen from The Butt of Sherry on Castle Street in Mere, at some point during the day.

DC Kev Keast, of Trowbridge CID, said: “We are keeping an open mind in relation to these three incidents, however, we are exploring the possibility that they are all linked.

“We’d like to appeal to anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously, or any suspicious vehicles, at the three venues, during the course of Saturday, to please get in touch with police immediately via 101.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be crucial to our investigation. Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
