DESPITE light drizzle and an overcast sky concerning organisers at the start of the day, Longbridge Deverill’s Flower Show was a roaring success on Saturday (August 13).

While it may be named as a flower show, there was far more than just looking at flowers on offer for the hundreds of people who turned up to enjoy the range of activities.

A dog show, digger dancing, mini Olympics, gymnastics performance and animal tent were on the bill as well as an evening ‘knees up’ for people who didn’t want the fun to end.

One of the organisers, Sam Ramsay, said: “After our honoured guest Sylvia Titt opened the show, we could then all relish in the small but perfectly formed village show.

“We enjoyed over 250 exhibits in the ‘Show Tent’ itself, almost 50 per cent up on last year, plus all of the other attractions.

“There was a gymnastic display, a live arena performance from the White Horse Morris Dancers and last but no way least a digger display from valued local Tim Davis.

“If this was not enough we carried on into the evening, opening with the villages own outstanding Tim Steer Band closely followed by the ever popular covers band ‘Uncle Jack.’

“The whole day was incredible and was only made possible by all the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved, not to mention everyone who turned up.

“I know I can speak for everyone involved when I say that we are looking forward to more of the same in 2017.”

The winner of the Vegetables section was Nick Robbins while Sarah Cripps was named the winner in the Flowers category.

Nick Robbins also won the most points overall of all contestants having their produce judged and the prestigious Best In Show award

This was the second year the event has run in the village and plans are already in place to make next year's show even better.
