ALL residents in Corsley will soon have access to high speed internet after it was announced that the final parts of the village have been added to high speed broadband plans.

Less than 12 months ago the village was predicted to only have around 50 per cent coverage, leaving the village divided into people with broadband and those without.

But increases in funding from the Broadband UK rural programme, a grant from a BT trust and donations from Longleat and Elizabethan Evening, topped up by the parish council, will allow the final part of the village to be covered by the end of 2018.

Neil Britten, chairman of Corsley Parish Council, said: “We are delighted that we now have the complete village covered so that those who want to will be able to access speeds of over 24Mbps if they subscribe to the service.

“As far as we can tell from the information supplied this will apply to all the properties in Corsley postcodes except perhaps a very few isolated ones.

“We are particularly indebted to Longleat and the Elizabethan Evening for their substantial financial donations which has meant we have not needed to ask individual residents for personal contributions.

“It is also fortunate that the remaining area requiring funding included Little Cuckoos which made the project eligible for a grant from a BT Trust.”

A company had to be formed in order to sign the contract and was set up by Hugh Deed.

The official contract which promises the high internet speed was signed on December 23 by representatives of the newly-formed company and BT.
