A PROFESSIONAL golf caddy from Warminster has raised more than £3,000 for the Wessex MS Therapy Centre by trekking through high altitudes in Nepal.

Mark Sherwood, of Swaledale Road, who tours with world number 63 Ross Fisher, embarked on the adventure of a lifetime as he set off on his two week trip on December 1, and in the process raised £3,387.

The route took him through the foothills of the Himalayas, staying overnight in tea houses along the way.

Mr Sherwood, 45, said: “I decided to raise money for the centre because my friend’s mum has multiple sclerosis.

“I asked professional golf players to donate as they all have a spare pound or two. They were all really generous and I was able to raise over £3,000 within one week.

“We had to deal with some freezing temperatures and some of the inclines were really steep, so at times it became very tough, but it was the most beautiful place and all for a great cause.

“My wife and two kids were really proud of me. I brought some rocks back for my son so he could take them into school to show off.”

Mr Sherwood and his trekking partner, John Warren, finally reached base camp at the height of 17,600 ft on December 15.

Tori Allison, community fundraiser at The Wessex MS Therapy Centre, said: “We were very excited to hear about Mark’s trek, it sounded amazing.

“He had to endure some tough conditions, but arrived back with some great stories and photographs of his trip.

“It’s fantastic he chose to fundraise for our centre, and we are always glad to support any fundraising venture.”

The Wessex MS Therapy Centre is the only centre in the region that provides long term and ongoing therapies for people with MS, and offers care and support for carers and family members.
