A FUNERAL directors in Warminster has undergone a major refurbishment to make it one of the most modern in the area.

F Curtis & Son, based in Portway, which opened in 1891, has had its arranging room, chapel facilities, mortuary and offices completely updated in a £120,000 upgrade.

Funeral director Matthew Shuttleworth, who is the sixth generation of the family to run the business, said: “We have been in the same place for hundreds of years and are well-respected in the local community.

“This investment has really brought the branch up to date allowing us, as a well-respected local firm, to continue providing a quality service for the people of Warminster and the surrounding area in their time of need.”

Mr Shuttleworth’s father, Glen, also works for the firm as a consultant, while Glen’s brother Graham takes a retirement.

Their mother Philippa Curtis, who married Arthur Shuttleworth, was a direct descendant of the firm’s founder, Frank Axcroft Curtis.

An open day was held on Thursday, January 19 which gave the mayor of Warminster, Cllr Paul Macfarlane, an opportunity to take a tour of the premises. He said he was 'very impressed' with the refurbishment.

The funeral directors supports local charities, and encourages people to call in and also lend their support by putting details of the charities in the shop window.

It also offers its premises free of charge for local people to meet and support each other.
