WORK has begun on removing the half pipe in the skatepark of Warminster Town Park.
It will take up to two weeks to dismantle the ramp, which is currently surrounded by fencing as a safety measure.
The town council said it ‘realises it’s disappointing for users to no longer have use of the pipe’ but following annual inspections it was clear that it had 'come to the end of its life’.
Campaign 4 WarminsterSk8park, along with Friends of Warminster Park and local youth workers, have been considering designs for a new skatepark and have made a start on fundraising for the £200,000 project.
The plans are to install a concrete state-of-the-art wheeled sports park which will serve the local community and also attract skaters from further afield.
Councillor Pip Ridout, chairman of the Skatepark Group’s committee and a member of Friends of Warminster Park, said: “The challenge has now started to raise the funds for this facility which is desperately needed for our young people.”
