WARMINSTER Diabetes UK support group has raised more than £300 from a street collection to fund research into the condition.
Diabetes is one of the most potentially devastating – and fastest-growing – health crises of our time. Diabetes UK's mission is to support those living with diabetes, prevent Type 2 diabetes, make research breakthroughs, and ultimately find a cure.
The Warminster Group supported Diabetes Week starting with a Walk in the Park, with help from Get Wiltshire Walking, and then held a two-day awareness and fundraising event in the town. Committee members set up and ran a stall outside Warminster Library offering information and pamphlets.
The promoter, Clive Wright said: “We were encouraged by the interest and were pleased to discuss our activities with both healthcare professionals and potential new members.
“With the assistance of a few supporters, a street collection raised £303 in donations from the generous people of Warminster. The group will now supplement this sum with money from previous fundraising events and be sending a donation of £1,000 to Diabetes UK for research.”
