THE eighth running of the Westbury Music and Arts Festival promises to be the biggest one yet according to its chairman, Ian Cunningham.

Taking place from September 25 until October 11, a total of 50 different events and exhibitions will be held throughout the town ranging from art exhibitions to choral concerts.

Mr Cunningham, who is also a Westbury councillor, said: “It’s definitely the biggest festival that we have done so far.

“Craig Charles, from Red Dwarf and Robot Wars, will be performing on our opening night and he is probably the biggest name that we’ve had, which is quite exciting.

“Westbury is a small town but we are doing better and better with the festival and we get a lot of support from businesses and local groups.

“From my point of view it gives you something to focus on in the town and it brings the community together."

A concert by the Wiltshire Council Singers, Westbury Choral, Matravers School Choir and the Westbury String Ensemble will open the festival at 7.30pm at The Laverton.

This will be followed up by a Funk and Soul set from Radio 6 Music and Radio 2 DJ Craig Charles at Club Ice from 9pm.
