THE owner of a van that crashed through a garden wall in Westbury and hit a house has spoken of his anger at the damage caused to the property and potential harm it will do to his business.

Carl Lodge-Metcalfe believes his business, CLM Construction, which is based just outside Westbury, will suffer due to the crash, which happened on Sunday morning around 1.30am on Rosefield Way.

The van, owned by Mr Lodge-Metcalfe’s company, was lent to a sub-contractor several days before the accident.

“It’s infuriating. I’m more upset about the people’s house it crashed into than the effect on the business,” said the 29-year-old.

“I’m glad no-one was hurt. I was furious when I found out on Sunday morning and upset and concerned for the people. A lot of work has gone into the business though, and it’s at risk of being brought down."

“I set it up two years ago and this is my passion, now I’m trying to protect people who work for me.

“Sub-contractors and labourers work with us on a regular basis and when we do well we get jobs and people come back.”

The owner of the house, Lorraine Stacey, said: “It could have been a lot worse but thankfully it wasn’t and t Thankfully nobody was hurt. I’m happy with how the police responded. They came out in 25 minutes and I have to thank my neighbours who have helped and been really brilliant.”

l Ashleigh Commins of Boulton Close, Westbury, has been charged with a number of driving offences including failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident and drink-driving.

The 29-year-old was also charged with driving with no insurance and driving other than in accordance with a licence.

He has been bailed to appear at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court on February 11.

A second man from Salisbury was also arrested but released without charge.
