PARKED cars left along a road in Westbury by commuters are causing frustration and anger amongst local residents, who feel it is only a matter of time before an accident happens.

Homeowners on Slag Lane feel that vehicles left by commuters who use Westbury Station are causing a hazard by blocking one side of the road.

Mike Oram, 68, who lives on Neptune Road near Slag Lane, has received a number of complaints from residents, in his role as acting chairman for Lakeside View Residents' Association.

“We would like double yellow lines down the road so commuters can’t park there because it’s only a matter of time before something happens,” he said. “What’s it going to take, someone to get hurt for anything to be done?

“It’s been ongoing for about three months and we’ve started getting a lot of residents saying they can’t get out of their drive because someone has parked across it. Several residents have had near misses with buses coming the other way because it is a bus route.

“Another danger is with vehicles coming over the bridge on Station Road and have to turn left into Slag Lane. They practically come to a stop because the cars are in the road.

“Highways said there was nothing they could do about it and if it was causing a danger to contact the police but I’ve heard nothing back.”

Mr Oram added: “One chap said he wasn’t a resident and when I asked him why he wasn't parking elsewhere and he said because of the cost at the car park."

A car park ticket at Westbury Station costs £3.20 before 10am Monday to Friday and £1.90 after 10am.

“He said he’d continue to park there until they made it illegal.”
