TWO ladies from Westbury are going to walk the distance of a marathon in Iceland to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Catherine Watkinson, 42, and Lesley Galpin, 38, who both work in the food safety industry, will complete the 26 mile MoonWalk in June.

The pair completed a London MoonWalk together in 2015 and, following its success, decided to tackle another one.

Mrs Watkinson, of Eriskay Gardens, said: “We’re both quite apprehensive but excited too. We know we can do it but you never know what might happen on the night.

“When people hear moonwalk they assume we’re going to impersonate Michael Jackson the whole way, but it’s not quite like that, although we do have to walk backwards for periods to help our muscles.

“It’s going to be a strange experience because we’re going to be walking through the night when it’s still light outside due to Iceland’s midnight sun.

“We both have friends and family who have been affected by breast cancer so this is our opportunity to show our support for them and raise money for a cause very close to our hearts.

“The London walk took about eight hours to complete and we’re aiming to do this one in less time than that, but I’ve had a bad back recently so we’re not sure how likely that is now.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far, it means a lot and it’s going to a great cause.”

The nocturnal fundraising event was set up to raise money for breast cancer charities and is taking place in an increasing number of locations every year.
