A TEAM of volunteers joined forces to clean for the Queen in Westbury last Wednesday (March 30).

The group of around a dozen residents joined chairman of the BA13 Community Area Partnership, Carole King, and local councillor David Jenkins, to clean the area of the railway embankment and the Minehole in Frogmore Lane in the town.

After several hours of collecting rubbish, they filled a total of 24 bags and gathered larger items to be taken away by Wiltshire Council.

Mrs King said: “It was a fantastic effort, and because of the determined effort of the volunteers, we covered a much larger area than we had originally planned. I would really like to thank everyone involved.

“We had lovely weather which was very lucky, and everyone made the most of it.

“Quite a few people who are new to the area joined in with the big clean. It was great to see how much they care about their community.

“David Jenkins and I had both noticed that the area along the railway embankment has become full of rubbish in recent weeks, so we decided it was the best area to tidy.”

The group found bags containing animal waste which had been thrown over fences, and lots of household waste, which prompted Cllr Jenkins to reinforce the need for people to recycle more often.

Another public clean-up is set to be organised in the summer by Cllr Jenkins.
