PERFECT weather greeted the runners of this year’s Bratton Hilly Run on Saturday (May 14), which raised money for Julia’s House.

Taking place on May 14, nearly 100 men, women and children competed in the 20th ever race and ran the 11km race from Bratton Jubilee Hall, up and around the Westbury White Horse, and back into the village via Imber Road.

Dot Reeves, who has organised the event for 15 years, said: “We’re used to seeing some familiar faces who turn up to run every year but this year there were some new faces which was nice to see.

"They all said that they thought the course was beautiful which was great. It was a cracking day as it always is.

“It’s always been a great community event and this year was no different, lots of people had a drink in the pub afterwards and there was a brass band playing in the village.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone who helped out on the day and well done to all who took part.

The course record of 40:42, which has stood since 2008, was smashed by Sam Pictor, the son of one of the race’s founders, who reduced the record time to 39:40.

Mr Pictor was followed home by Oliver Andrews from Devizes in a time of 42:37, and in third place was James Sharland, who recorded a time of 46:12.

The women’s race was won by Jo Mumford of Avon Valley Runners, who was running the race for the first time, finishing in 53:33.
