HUNDREDS of fans descended on Westbury’s Meadow Lane on Sunday, July 3 for a charity football match.
Through ticket sales, a raffle and a JustGiving page set up before the match, a total of £1,316 was raised, which will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The game was played between a team of coaches from Warminster Highbury FC and Trowbridge Town Supporters’ Veterans, with the former winning the hotly contested match 2-0.
Organiser Dave Kemmery, 34, said: “It was a fantastic game of football but the most important thing was the charity aspect.
“I am stunned at how much the game has raised overall, it’s a fantastic amount which will go towards a very important charity.
“I organised a match last year too which raised under £1,000 so it was nice to see an increase this year.
“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer at some point in their lives, which is why I decided to choose Macmillan as the charity to raise money for.
“We definitely showed more passion and spirit than the England team did against Iceland, and it was a better game for the spectator, in my opinion.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to all the players and fans, and to everyone who has donated. It really means a lot and goes to show that anyone can make a difference.”
