STAFF from Somerset Care’s Wiltshire Community Services team held an event to celebrate Older Person’s Day on Thursday, October 6.

The event, which was held at Bell Orchard extra care housing scheme in Westbury, invited a number of businesses to come along and give demonstrations and share information on the services they provide.

The event was a big success as residents from Bell Orchard, other nearby extra care housing schemes and members of the public attended to find out information on what is available for older people in the area.

Business Manager Jenny Futcher said: “It was a really great day and we hope all the attendees found it useful. It’s been lovely to speak with everyone today and find out a bit more about them.

"We are looking to organise something at Christmas time so please look out for more information.”

Demonstrations were given by Somerset Care, Mobility Works, Farm Foods, Link, Age UK, Carers Support and Wiltshire Fire Service.

Older Person’s Day is used to mark a national celebration of the achievements and contributions that older people make to the society and to the economy.

Morrisons in Westbury donated a hamper as a raffle prize and Sainsbury’s Melksham, Wiltshire Farm Foods and Mobility Works also donated prizes for the tombola.

Some of the residents from other extra care housing schemes brought along their arts and crafts to celebrate continuing with hobbies at an older age.
