FIVE volunteers who have been working tirelessly to improve Westbury Station say their work is almost complete.
The team from Heart of Wessex and the Friends of Westbury Station have been working on different parts of the station for the past three and a half years and work to transform the embankment outside the station is now finished
Weeds have been cleared and there is a new stone 'Westbury' sign.
Team leader Rob Brown said: “We wanted to make the station look that little bit nicer.
"The embankment was covered in weeds and litter and it really didn’t look very nice at all.
"We developed a garden at the far end and now we have the sign which was made by stonemason Simon Meade-King.”
The group received funding from the Heart of Wessex and the Bay Tree café to help pay for tools and materials.
Volunteer Rosemary Buchan said: “The approach to the station was diabolical.
"We have had a lot of commuters walking past saying that it looks lovely and how much it has improved.”
Once the work is complete, the volunteers promise that the much-needed facelift will benefit the community as well as regular train travellers.
Mr Brown added: “The station is very busy, with a lot of people using it to commute to London and other cities, but this is something for the whole of Westbury."
