A five-year-old Hilperton boy and a 12-year-old schoolgirl were the final two winners in a competition in The Shires shopping centre in Trowbridge, winning iPads in time for Christmas.

Ambrose Harrold from Hilperton was the youngest winner and he collected his prize from joint organisers O2 with mum Helen.

The family entered the competition every week for five weeks, hoping to win one of the six iPads donated by O2 – each retailing at about £330 – with two winning names being drawn on the last day.

“For us, winning an iPad was the only way we were going to get one,” said Mrs Harrold, who has seven children aged from five to 17.

She said the competition to find a picture of an iPad in one of the shops was something Ambrose could do and he spotted the picture in the Premier Interiors shop.

Emma Marshall, 12, from Frome, was the other winner, having entered while Christmas shopping with her mum and a friend.

Other winners were James Gaisford from Radstock, who won while out shopping with his mum Mary from Bradford on Avon and 17-year-old sixth former Abi Ledbury from Trowbridge. The first two winners were Tia Tuttiett from Warminster and Michael Watts from Bradford on Avon.
