Abbeyfield School in Chippenham has performed well in this year’s league table coming in the top 30 schools in Wiltshire for both GCSE and A-levels.

The school was ranked 26th within Wiltshire for its GCSE scores and 58 per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades at GCSE including English and maths.

At A-level the average point score for pupils in year 13 was 671.5, placing the school 24th in Wiltshire.

Headteacher David Nicholson said: “It is encouraging to read about both the local and national uplift in results.

"Teachers, students and headteachers are exerting a massive amount of effort in the face of continual changes to qualifications and rising targets.

“The trouble with performance tables is that raw data does not tell the full story about life in any school, it can only really help to identify the questions that might be asked.

"Qualifications are a tremendously important part of education, however there is much more involved in making sure children receive a rounded education.”
