Westbury mayor David Windess will be taking on his first ever half marathon in March, when he runs the Bath Half Marathon on behalf of Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

Cllr Windess has been training for the event, which takes place on March 2 and covers a two lap 13.1 mile course straddling both sides of the River Avon, for the past four months.

His training with a personal trainer has resulted in him losing two-and-a-half-stone and he aims to finish the race in two hours and 45 minutes.

He has already raised £380 for Baths Cats and Dogs Home, which is one of his charities of the year, but hopes to raise more in the lead up to the event.

Cllr Windess said: “I will make sure I finish even if it’s on my hands and knees, but hopefully that won’t be the case. I’m looking forward to it. I’d like to do it in two hours and 45 minutes – or 25 minutes faster.

“It’s the first half marathon I have ever done and it’s going to be hard work, but I’ve got to make sure I don’t get carried away and set off too quickly. It’s all for a great cause.”
