Crowds filled Fore Street in Trowbridge on Saturday for the annual Lions May Fair, raising money for a variety of charities.

Fundraisers represented included Breast Cancer Support, the Salvation Army, Trowbridge in Bloom, Trowbridge Carnival Committee and Alzheimer’s Support.

Peter Cook, who is on the Lions fundraising committee and who organised the stalls, said: “We were more or less at our limit.

“All of our 24 stalls were taken by a variety of charities, who all want to get a message across, and there was tremendous support.

“I was chatting to the stall holders and they all seemed to be really pleased and said they would be back next year.”

Visitors were treated to pole dancing, belly dancing and Zumba demonstrations and entertainment from the Young Shamrock Irish Dancers and Stagecoach.

The day was opened and closed by Melksham Rock and Roll Club.

Mr Cook added: “It was all very visual and the weather was a big plus.

“It was nice to have that on our side and everyone seemed to be really pleased with how the day went, including the audiences.

“It was great to see something going on in Fore Street because it can be a bit on the quiet side. It was full all day.”

Town crier Trevor Heeks, who organised the entertainment, said: “It was probably one of the best May Fairs we have had for some years.

“All the acts were really well received and it was nice to see people joining in with the Zumba and rock and roll.”
