Coffee and cycling made for a successful combination at Boswells cafe in The Shires at their fundraising event last Saturday raising more than £900.

More than 40 customers hopped on the store’s static bike machine to cycle in aid of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

In total shoppers aged nine to 68 cycled more than 212 miles and were rewarded with a free drink if they undertook the 15 minute challenge. Solly Rideout, 15, was crowned the winner after completing more than seven miles and can enjoy free coffee from the store for a month.

Boswells director Matt Burn said: “We did five events on Saturday and the Trowbridge store raised the most amount of money so we are very thankful to all of the people who took part.

“It was good fun knowing we were raising money for a really important cause and it was great to make it competitive.”

The cancer charity is particularly poignant to Matt as his father and Boswells' founder, Jeremy Burn, lost his life to the illness in 2012.

Alongside the fundraising in stores, Matt, 38, and his two brothers Nick, 40, and Tim, 37, embarked on a 400 mile bike ride on Wednesday starting at Newport, Wales and is due to finish in Gloucester tomorrow.

They are joined by half brother Charlie Burn, brother-in-law Nick Jones and three friends.

So far they have raised more than £16,300 and are hoping to reach their target of £40,000. Matt admitted although he hadn’t done as much training as he would have liked, nothing will deter him from finishing the challenge,

“If my legs start hurting I will remember why I’m doing it and the amount of money we are raising will help me get through it.”
