TROWBRIDGE locals have been asked to take greater ‘pride’ in their town after several volunteers pulled out a shocking amount of waste by the Lambrok brook.

Town councillors Diana King, Tom Bazan and Matt Callaway from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust were shocked and appalled at the sheer amount of waste they pulled out of the brook on Sunday.

The trio, who put on their waders in the clean-up, recovered a car battery, a car exhaust, a car bumper, car seats, carpets, bikes and even a bed frame - in just a 50m stretch of the brook.

Cllr Bazan said that there needs to be an attitude change when it comes to preserving the local environment.

“It’s quite sad to see the types of rubbish that gets dumped into the brook. To have so much stuff in such a small stretch was shocking and disappointing - this rubbish issue must change,” he said.

“We want people to take greater pride in their town and not do this sort of thing. Council resources can be stretched but nobody should be just throwing this waste into places of nature.

“It was quite rewarding that we managed to get all of that rubbish out of the brook but it should never happen in the first place.”

Cllr Bazan hoped that when they do another clean up by the brook on Sunday, July 15, more people will volunteer

“Myself and Matt put out advertisements to get the residents involved but unfortunately no-one else turned up so it was just the three of us,” he said.

“It’s a bit of a shame that we couldn’t get any more residents to help out. Even some young kids came along and tried stealing some equipment we borrowed.”
