A workman who was crushed by a digger as a new gas main was laid near Box has died from his injuries.

Police confirmed this aftrnoon that the man, who has not yet been named, died at the scene.

Fire, police and ambulance crews are still at Ditteridge Road, Box.

The accident happened just after noon today when the man was helping to dig a trench. It is understood he was on the roadway and he was hit by a trencher lorry.
