REPORTS of a man carrying explosives boarding a train at Chippenham Railway Station on last night caused severe delays to commuters.
Police received a call at 6.30pm on Friday after an unidentified man was seen getting on the train in Chippenham, which was headed for London.
He was said to be carrying explosives although there was no indication that he had any intention of using them.
The train was stopped at Swindon Railway Station and the police conducted a full search of the each carriage. The station was closed for the duration of the one-and-a-half-hour search and rail services in and out of the station were disrupted.
No-one matching the description was found on the train and when police were satisfied there was no threat to the public, the station was re-opened.
Rail passengers experienced disruption for the rest of the evening due to the incident.
