THE performance director of under-fire First Great Western will speak to local business leaders later this month.

Mark Hopwood will explain what the company is doing to improve local rail services when he speaks to the Wessex Association Chamber of Commerce breakfast at Cumberwell Golf Club, Bradford on Avon on May 30.

The talks come just weeks after Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly threatened to strip First Great Western of its West Country rail franchise if services do not improve.

She said First Great Western was being put "on notice" to improve services, which have been "unacceptable for far too long".
