KENDAL'S Craig Roberts won Saturday's two-mile Dufton Fell Race despite failing to take the most direct route to the finish line.
Unsure about where he was going, Roberts - who won the race two years ago - went astray on the descent but instead of taking advantage of the England international's meanderings, Howgill's Peter Brittleton decided to follow him.
"He would probably have won the race if he knew where he was going," said Roberts, who finished 36 seconds ahead of Brittleton and picked up £70 for first place.
Kendal's Elizabeth Unsworth was the sole lady competitor and finished 12th in 48-15.
The under 16 junior race was won by Thomas Armstrong, from Milburn, who beat Andrew Abraham by one second to clock a time of 14-41.
