SIX sides from Division Two have made it through to the second round of this season's presstoprint-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup and two of them have been paired together in one of the ties of the round.

White Horse, who are currently in fourth place, host leaders Staverton, the only side to beat Clive Black’s side in the league this term.

What promises to be a thrilling cup clash is really hard to call as the hosts have won six on the spin since losing 6-4 to Aaron Latchem’s side on the opening day of the season.

This is one game that may go all the way and if the hosts can keep a solid defence they have a good chance of making it to the quarter-final stage.

Another mouthwatering clash sees first division Biddestone White Horse host another of the second division high flyers in Goatacre CC.

Goatacre have had it easy so far with a 8-0 victory over Pig & Whistle B and a first-round bye setting up the fixture with Biddestone who, after a preliminary round bye, beat stablemates Corsham United.

In what should be a David versus Goliath battle, first division leaders Bradford Renegades, who have already accounted for Premier side FC Colerne and second division Sutton Benger, should have few problems in disposing of Wren FC for whom this will be their first game in the competition.

The formbook suggests another high-scoring win for Renegades and if Sam Jordan is playing he will have a very good chance of hitting the seven goals needed to take him to 50 for the season.

There is another gladiatorial battle scheduled for Beversbrook where cup holders Bug & Spider go head-to-head with FC Jager in one of two all-Premier Division clashes.

This one just happens to be a repeat of last term's final which Bug won 2-1 thanks to a stunning second-half strike from Mark Dolman.

Jager would love to avenge their defeat and Barry Holloway’s men will have a good chance to do that, but they will have to be at their best as Bug are unbeaten in four.

Castle FC, who have had a good cup pedigree in recent seasons face a tough test at home to FC Boroughs in an all-first division battle.

Boroughs have been at the top of their game in recent weeks and victories over both Steeple Ashton Rangers and Prestige Bodyworks should set them up nicely for the trip to Sands Lane, Rowde.

Seeing as they have already beaten Tom Perkins side this term they will be looking to advance to the last eight.

Like Castle, Biddestone White Horse and Bradford Renegades, Chippenham West End remain in both of the league’s cup competitions and they will fancy their chance of going even further in this one.

They have a home tie against an out-of-sorts Steeple Ashton Rangers side who have managed just one win from their last five league outings.

West End have already claimed the scalps of Semington Rovers and Prestige Bodyworks and if they are on form the ought to add Ashton to their list of conquests.

Second division Somerford FC may have home advantage for their second round tie, but they won’t be looking forward to the visit from two-time cup winners Biddestone Social ,who go into the game on the back of a thumping 12-0 success over Cedars Bar in the Sunday Cup.

Somerford themselves were in the goals last week, hitting nine past Miller Sports, but Biddestone will prove a much tougher challenge as they continue their hunt for silverware on three fronts.

Westbury Rangers A will hope that their pitch at Meadow Lane will be passed fit so that they can host top flight rivals AFC Melksham who they have already beaten 1-0 in their league encounter.

Westbury are still trying to end their 40-year wait for Knockout Cup success and although they have a chance of getting beyond this round they are unlikely to go much further.

Melksham themselves have not played for a month since they beat Old Road in the previous and if Mike Rogers has his first-choice players available, it will be curtains for Rangers.
