GRAHAM Shadwell’s unbroken run in the England senior men’s team is set to continue, writes DAVE EATON.

The 38-year-old, from Trowbridge, who plays for the Spencer Moulton club at Bradford on Avon, has been selected for the national side to compete in the 2014 Home International Championships at Bowls England’s new headquarters at Royal Leamington Spa on June 28-29 next year.

He has been named as a lead again in the rink to be skipped by Jamie Chestney (Torquay, Devon) and will play alongside Andy Knapper (Berkshire) and Jamie Walker (Northants).

This rink won all three of their matches against Scotland, Wales and Ireland this season recording the biggest winning margin against the latter two countries, as undefeated England won the home international series.

Shadwell was first selected for the England senior side in 2001 and has been a permanent fixture since, mostly playing as a back end player at three or skip.

However, after playing as three to Chestney in 2012 and in the 2013 trial he was switched to lead by the selectors.

Shadwell collected a bronze medal in the triples at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and another bronze in the pairs with Chestney at the 2012 World Championships in Australia.

He is hoping to be selected for the five-man England side to compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next summer.

Spencer Melksham’s successful men bowlers received their awards on Captain’s Day at the club.

Paul Barnes was the most successful with a hat-trick in the pairs, four and two wood singles while he also finished as runner-up in the four wood handicap. He also partnered Marcia Cottle to victory in the mixed pairs.

Steve Gedge (captain) presented the club trophies to the winners and runners-up while Patrick Mitchell presented the Mary Weir Mitchell Memorial Trophy to the winner Bern Davies.
