WITH Division One leaders Bromham losing at Somerford, Prestige Bodyworks, who started the day in second spot, missed out on the chance to take over at the summit after they crashed to their first defeat of the campaign.

A 5-1 defeat away at Goatacre CC FC coupled with Somerford’s win means that Prestige slip down a place to third spot.

With neither side being able to break the deadlock in the first half, Goatacre’s player-manager Sam Parish took himself off at half time and from that moment his team sprang into life, Rob Murphy giving them the lead.

Two goals from Kieron Gleed made it 3-0, Ed Wilkins added number four before Adam O’Keeffe pulled a goal back for Prestige.

With Prestige well and truly beaten, a second from Wilkins just rubbed salt into their wounds as Goatacre were impressive in what was their best display of the season.

Chippenham West End 0 Corsham CC Wildcats 12

THINGS continue to go from bad to worse for bottom of the table Chippenham West End who, due to an ever-growing injury list are struggling for players.

Pete Dennett, Sayeed Ibrahim with his first goal for the club, Ed Jones and Leigh Rogers put the Wildcats 4-0 up before Dennett added his second of the game to give them a five goal lead at the break.

West End were unable to stem the flow of goals in the second half as the Wildcats seemed to score at will, both Ibrahim and Rogers added to their first-half efforts before Dennett completed his hat-trick.

Substitute Will Chivers bagged his first for the club prior Dan King scoring the last three for the Wildcats. His third saw him run the length of the pitch before beating a disillusioned West End keeper to complete the winners' dozen.

North Star A 3 Staverton FC 5

NORTH Star A saw their winless run extend to eight games after they suffered a 5-3 loss at home to Staverton FC.

A Jason Povey double gave Staverton a 2-0 lead before North Star finally woke up and thanks to goals from Paul Green and Steve Allison they restored parity to draw level before half time.

North Star started the second half as they had finished the first and the hosts sensed an upset when Mark Dolman put them 3-2 up.

But things turned in favour of Staverton once the home team had Steve Allison sent off. Cameron Henley fired the visitors level and then Povey put them back ahead with a sublime 30-yard strike that dipped into the back of the net giving the Star keeper no chance.

Staverton made their numerical advantage count and they wrapped up victory courtesy a another neat finish this time from Levi Wood, who secured a 5-3 triumph for Aaron Latchem’s side.

Somerford FC 4 Bromham (Sunday) 0

A 4-0 win for Somerford FC at home to leaders Bromham not only saw Spike Chandler’s side avenge their 3-2 loss from back in September, it also help them boost the promotion credentials as they moved just one point behind their opponents in second spot.

In a game that was a fantastic advert for grass roots football and played in a great spirit by both sets of players, it was Somerford who got the all-important first goal of what was always going to be an action-packed contest between the two sides, Chris Yeo giving them the lead which they doubled before half time thanks to a Matt Spear effort.

After the break a second from Yeo stretched Somerford’s advantage even further and when Wayne Johnson put through his own net to add to Bromham’s woes it was game, set and match to Chandler’s men who, with games in hand on sides around them, look a good bet to fill a top two berth come next May.

White Horse (Sunday) A 0 Kings Arms (All Cannings) 0

IT WAS a meeting of old adversaries at Leighton Sports Centre, as Kings Arms (All Cannings) made the long trip to Westbury to face a White Horse (Sunday) A side that have begun to show signs recently of returning to something like top form.

Without their injured talisman, Dale Rowland, the Horse were more than glad to welcome back Chris Stiles, but even his return from a spell on the sidelines couldn’t inspire, as the two teams proceeded to cancel one another out and produce an extremely rare 0-0 draw.

The visitors started the livelier, but their efforts were thwarted by a resolute Horse defence as the early stages set the tone for the rest of the morning.

As the first half unfolded the hosts began to ask questions of their own and, having had strong penalty appeals turned away just minutes earlier, were given the opportunity to break the deadlock from the spot when referee Steve Higgins spotted a stray arm making contact with the ball.

However, the normally dependable Pete Ayton blazed over in what was to end up being the only clear cut opportunity of the game.

Despite averaging six goals a game over their last four encounters the two attacks remained tamed and chances were few and far between, with two well-organised backlines hardly putting a foot wrong for the remainder of the game.
