WITH leaders FC Buscots set for a free weekend, their reign at the top of the Division Two table came to an end as victories for both Southwick Wanderers and Miller Sports A saw them claim a share of the number one spot.

The latter of the two sides top the standings thanks to a better goal difference following their 3-0 win over GRFC in a game that also provided them with their first clean sheet of the season.

Miller created a number of chances in the first half and could have been four or five up at halftime with Scott Boyd, Nick Groves, Robert Biggs and David Jenkins all going close.

They finally found the break through when Boyd picked up the ball in his own half on the right wing beat his marker and played a perfect cross from the right over to Groves to score for a third game in a row since coming back into the team.

The second half started more even and although GRFC were putting more pressure on Miller their defence held firm with the visitors only real chance falling to Robbie Burton who hit the bar.

Miller started to press and the breakthrough came from an unlikely source a corner fell to right back John Bridgman to slot home scoring not only his first goal for the club but of his career.

With GRFC tiring Miller scored their third, Steve Roberts' weak shot on the turn from 20 yards out ending up in the net as the GRFC keeper got his angles totally wrong.

GRFC could have had a consolation at the end as Miller's defensive partnership of Dave Jenkins and Paul Walker allowed Matty Jenkins space but his early shot was blazed wide.

AFC Avellinos 2 Sutton Benger 2

A WEEK after they were beaten 5-0 by Sutton Benger in the Knockout Cup, AFC Avellinos may not have avenged that defeat but hey will be happy that they managed to get a point from their rematch.

But manager Pete Rees will be disappointed that after leading 2-0 at the break they didn’t go on to complete the win as Benger fought back in the second period with two goals of their own to claim a 2-2 draw.

Benger who didn't get going in the first half found themselves two down as a Simon McCarthy double put Avellinos ahead.

Benger upped their game in the second half and reduced the arrears midway through after a cheeky through ball from James Weston fell to Luke Watson who volley home.

Benger snatched a point with 30 seconds left on the watch when a lofted cross from Karl Gibson landed at Chris Miles who lofted the ball over the on rushing keeper to leave the game in deadlock.

Southwick Wanderers 4 Talbot FC 3

SOUTHWICK Wanderers claimed a share of top after they saw off a spirited challenge from Talbot FC, who came up just short from their trip.

Southwick, who are enjoying one of their best-ever starts to a season, opened the scoring through Stuart Powell who converted a Pete Spong free kick to give his team the lead.

The hosts doubled their lead when Zach Manna netted The hosts regained their two-goal advantage when Manna set up Ferris Lamrabet who made it 3-1.

Back came Talbot and a second from Matt Law made it game on, however it was Southwick who got the important next goal, Jack Parker pounced on a loose ball to give them a 4-2 lead.

Dale Wood produced a delightful 25 yard to keep Talbot in the game.

But it was the hosts who pressed on looking to add to their four goals and had it not been for the Talbot keeper, who denied both Matt Rusling and Zach Manna, and the woodwork that frustrated Ferris Lamrabet, the hosts' win would have been a lot more convincing.
