NORTH Star B picked up a crucial three points from their trip to fellow Division Three relegation battlers FC North Wiltshire to move themselves out of the bottom two and leave their hosts firmly rooted to the foot of the table after managing just five points from a possible 27.

Jack Taylor as he has done so many times this season proved to be the catalyst for the Star’s win. Taylor gave his team a first-half lead before Rob Lymath scored from a corner to make it 2-0 in the second period.

Lymath then went from hero to villain when he handled in the area leading to a penalty for North Wilts which was tucked away by Dan Gilbert to reduce the arrears.

A second from Taylor that took his tally to 14 for the season sealed the Star’s win that saw then end a three match winless run.

Christian Malford 2 Old Road FC 1

HAVING moved out of the drop zone last weekend, Christian Malford picked up another valuable three points in their battle to beat the drop thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Old Road FC on a heavy Kington Langley pitch.

There were no goals in the first half with Malford having slightly more chances, Josh Bewley in the Old Road goal saving from both Rob Lowe and Mark Evans when faced with the strikers in a one to one situation.

Old Road did cause the Malford problems with Dean Archer and Jay Watkin probing the defence.

Old Road started brightly in the second half, with Edward Mallard’s lob going over both advancing keeper and crossbar.

Malford began to get more in the game and finally broke the deadlock when Scott Evans took the ball down the right before crossing for Rob Lowe to score and give Malford a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute.

This spurred on Old Road who began to pressurise Malford, whose stand in keeper Paul Knight had to make a couple a saves to keep them in front.

He could not, however, do anything with Jay Watkin’s slightly deflected low shot from outside the penalty area which gave Old Road an equaliser at 1-1 in the 77th minute.

Play went end to end with Old Road substitute Scott Austin just going wide of the post after a scramble in the Malford goalmouth.

In the 81st minute Malford were awarded a penalty when Rob Lowe was brought down in the area. Scott Evans scored despite a brave effort from the Old Road keeper.

Both teams continued to battle but the Malford defence held firm as they took the points with a 2-1 win. The game was very well refereed by Neil Hickton.

Crossblades FC 1 Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 2

WITH both Crossblades and Trowbridge Town Supporters Club fighting for their third division survival the clash at Nurstead Road, Devizes was always going to be a nail biter and so it proved once again as the supporters’ club, who had lost the reverse fixture 5-4 earlier this term, avenged that loss courtesy of a 2-1 success.

The result is certain to bring some welcome cheer to the supporters’ club manager Kevin Williams who is in hospital recovering from a recent operation as he will believe his team is in safe hands without him at the helm.

Sean O’Brien gave the visitors the perfect start as his goal put them 1-0 ahead in the first couple of minutes.

Dan Stanley added a second for the supporters’ club before Ashley Bartels pulled a goal back for Crossbaldes prior to half time.

The second half was action packed with both keepers and defences being kept busy with the supporters’ Robbie Newton producing a few fine saves to keep his team ahead as they finally shut out the game to claim their 2-1 win.

Melksham Cosmos 4 Wren FC 2

A 4-2 VICTORY for leaders Melksham Cosmos at the Conigre over Wren FC saw them extend their unbeaten run to eight matches, but more importantly for the home team, it maintained their five-point advantage over the chasing pack currently headed by local rivals Sportzcoach.

Chris Berrelly put Cosmos ahead but his effort was cancelled out by Matt Fenn whose sweet left footed volley from 20 yards out swerved into the top corner to restore parity for the Wren. Cosmos regained the lead before the break thanks to Lee Fielding.

The second period saw Matt Bowden put Cosmos 3-1 up and Andy Muspratt make it 4-1 before Wren pulled a goal back through captain Adam Moody who scored from the penalty spot.

Wren were also indebted to both Martin Gould and Simon Young who came up with a number of crucial challenges as they kept their side in the game as Cosmos threatened to run away with it.
