PETER Stringer is anxious to keep Bath’s winning momentum ahead of a couple of months that could go a long way to deciding the destiny of their season.

The Ireland scrum-half comes back into the reckoning for Sunday’s Aviva Premiership visit to Wasps (2pm) having sat out the last two weeks of LV= Cup matches.

Christmas and new year appointments with Harlequins, Northampton and Leicester loom large on Bath’s calendar and, with six straight wins in all competitions, Stringer is determined the wheels won’t come off this weekend or for the visit of Exeter in the league next week.

“We’re facing a tough couple of months, said the 98-times capped man, who saw scrum-half rival Martin Roberts score in the 37-15 LV= Cup win over Exeter last weekend.

“The season has been just about getting off to a good start and we’ve played in some really tough conditions where we’ve just managed the games as best we can and almost got a win at all costs.’

“Our players are going out each week looking for wins and they keep pushing.

“I’ve been in this situation throughout my career. There is a competitive nature in the squad which gives us a good working environment.’’

Wasps lost their first three games, but a rapid improvement saw them claim champions Leicester’s scalp last month.

Stringer added: “They’ve really picked up and are growing in confidence, particularly at home where they will be really tough.’’
