A THUMPING 7-1 win over Bristol UWE A kept West Wilts in second spot in Davis Wood League Conference North last Saturday.

Beaten by runaway leaders City of Bath the previous week, Wilts showed few ill-effects and put the game to bed in the first 20 minutes.

Four early goals went in, with strikes from David King, Dan Sheppard and two from Mark Brothers.

As the game progressed Wilts stepped off the gas before clicking into gear again in the second half James Baker and two more from man of the match Brothers completing the rout.

WEST Wilts Ladies suffered their first West Clubs League East Division defeat of the season as Mendip claimed a 2-0 success at Kingdown School.

An even first half saw Wilts denied by the visiting keeper, whose side grabbed the lead before the interval.

Wilts worked hard to try to get an equaliser in the second half but the Mendip defence held firm and, as the hosts pushed forward, they added a second.

Wilts, whose player of the match award was shared between Nic Yalland and Karla Cundick, are now three points clear at the top of the table.

The ladies bounced back by beating Bridgwater 1-0 in the second round of the Investec Women’s Trophy.

The only goal came from a short corner mid way through the second half when Nic Yalland finished off a move.

West Wilts Ladies 3rd claimed a 3-1 win over City of Bath 3rd in Wessex Division Two on Saturday – their first victory of the season.

An attacking formation allowed Wilts to take the game to their opponents and they opened the scoring through Nikki Ford, from a well placed pass from Melissa Ilic. The second goal arrived from Jacqui Witherick’s well-placed shot, after strong support from Jo Watson.

Bath replied after half time but with the defence of Pat Murdoch, Alexis Symes, Tanya Jackson and Sally Sheppard on form, excellent play from Ford allowed Suzi Agate to wrap up the win.
