THE only match that survived the elements in Division Three was the one at Christie Miller where the top two sides went head-to-head.
It was leaders Melksham Cosmos who enhanced their title chances after taking three points from Sportzcoach Dragonz United to surge eight points clear of their locally-based rivals at the top of the standings.
Having been beaten by Sportzcoach in the WG Parr Trophy earlier this season, Melksham Cosmos were desperate to avenge that loss and get maximum points from the proverbal promotion six-pointer.
But Cosmos didn’t have everything their own way as they were made to work hard for their 3-2 success.
Cosmos led 2-0 at the break through goals from Phil Carter who scored from the penalty spot and Jason Hull.
The second half saw Dan Kovacs net his first of the season to get Sportzcoach back in the game, but all their good work was undone when the unfortunate Joe Hargreaves put through his own net to restore Cosmos’ two-goal advantage.
Sportzcoach grabbed a second through Kovacs but with the conditions deteriorating and Cosmos desperate to hold onto their lead they were able to see the game out and claim both the points and bragging rights over their rivals until they meet again later in the season.
