RUGBY: ‘You have to make the most of these opportunities’ – Wilson
IF ALL goes to plan, both Bath prop David Wilson and his adopted home town club could be stepping out at the home of English rugby next month.
While a potential Aviva Premiership final appearance with Bath would be another career high point for the 29-year-old, as a 34-cap international, Wilson has already experienced plenty of big days on Twickenham’s hallowed turf.
The amateur players of Trowbridge RFC have no such point of reference, but town resident Wilson has urged his local club to grasp the opportunity of earning a dream day out with both hands.
“It’s the biggest opportunity you’ll ever get because it’s the biggest stage in England and everybody aspires to play at Twickenham and especially in a final,’’ he said.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve got used to playing at Twickenham because every game I’ve played there has been a great occasion.’’
Guildford, of course, stand in the way of Steve Ojomoh’s Trowbridge side and the biggest day out in their history and Wilson believes putting all thoughts of the huge prize at the end of tomorrow’s semi-final to the back of their minds will be the key to the Wiltshire men’s chances.
“You have to make the most of these opportunities,’’ said the former Newcastle Falcons man.
“You’ve just got to look at it as any other game and play as hard as you can and keep the pressure on the opposition.
“You have to go out there with all guns blazing, not leave anything in the tank and you can’t be scared to play.
“Players can get a bit uptight about matches like this, but you have to relax and play your game.
“I live quite close to their (Trowbridge’s) old ground, but I’ve been past their new one and it looks a great facility there.
“Hopefully they can get the job done on the day because it would be a massive occasion for the club and the town.’’
