CUMBERWELL Park golf manager Ali James believes it is “very likely’’ that the Bradford on Avon club will host the EuroPro Tour again after the success of last week’s HotelPlanners.com Championship event.
The feedback from players and officials was overwhelmingly positive as Cumberwell made a memorable debut hosting one of top events for the tour, a development platform for the main European Tour.
James heaped praise on the club’s ground staff and members for delivering a successful tournament – even overcoming an unexpected invasion of tiny frogs on the 14th green on the second day.
“We’re absolutely delighted with how it went,’’ said James, who played in the event himself.
“The course was in great shape which is a tribute to all the ground staff because they proved they can produce a course worthy of a tournament like that.
“What was really pleasing was that the members bought into it and got involved too.
“We really loved hosting it, the players and tour enjoyed it and it’s looking very likely that they will be back.’’
On the frog invasion, he added: “We had a little outbreak on the 14th green on the Thursday morning.
“It was a bit unusual – they were only about the size of ladybirds but we had to use a leaf blower to clear them off.’’
