FROME Town chief Adrian Foster hopes his side have finally turned a corner after ending a six-match winless run in the league with victory over local rivals Paulton Rovers.

It has been a tough opening few months for the Robins and a return of four wins from their opening 20 league games left them second from bottom before Wednesday’s night game.

But Town were able to turn it on when it mattered most at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium and have now pulled six points clear of bottom side Banbury United.

Lewis Haldane headed the hosts in front in the first half before Ben Thomson doubled the lead after the break, with Aaron Rodriguez claiming the assist for both goals.

Town boss Foster said: “We played really well against Hitchin and Corby in recent weeks and didn’t get the results our performances deserved but on Wednesday night we did.

“It’s a bit demoralising for the lads when they play so well but still come off the pitch having lost out to the odd goal or a sloppy bit of play but that wasn’t the case on Wednesday.

“It’s been a long hard season for us with injuries and suspensions and come this Saturday it’ll be the first time we can field the same team twice.

“Hopefully we’ve turned a bit of a corner and this will be the kick-start the lads need to push on.

“We lost to Paulton in the cup a few weeks ago and although beating your local rivals is important, getting through to the next round of that competition wasn’t the number one priority.

“But Wednesday night was. It was as big game and if you get beaten by your local rivals it’s a little bit embarrassing.

“All of the lads put in a superb effort and we were able to get the win. To go into the changing room afterwards and see all the lads buzzing with big smiles on their faces was very satisfying.”

Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Corby Town last Saturday and have two more games at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium next week.

They entertain Slough Town on Saturday before the visit of Weymouth on Wednesday.

The Robins are likely to be without Matt Smith and Jon Vance for both games but Foster otherwise has a healthy squad to pick from.
