CHRISTIAN Malford went into their Division Two game with The Mallard on the back of an excellent knockout cup victory over top flight side Goatacre.

But for Grant Christie’s side it was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show as a 4-0 defeat brought them back down to earth with a bang.

A first goal for the club from Dane Joiner gave Mallard a half-time lead. The second half was a lot more comfortable for the Mallard as a James Terry double and Jason Hudson with his first for the side saw them claim their first win of the season.

Corsham Oak may have romped to a 7-0 home success over Lavington Rangers, but the result wasn’t as one-sided as it would appear. If it wasn’t for the heroics of keeper Dave Carduss who produced a number of fine stops at crucial times the result could have been different.

Josh May scored from the spot on five minutes and Nathan Lynch lashed home from 30 yards for 2-0 before Joe Masson drilled home a 30 yard free kick to give the Oak a 3-0 interval lead.

Darren Applegate’s double and substitute Simon young who scored with his first touch along with another excellent free kick from Masson completed the win.

A first goal in four seasons from Eddie Mallard was just a consolation for an Old Road side who suffered a 3-1 defeat at FC Bradford. Ashley Styles, Adil Bakali and Damien Moran with a 20-yard strike made it 3-1 to Bradford before Mallard score his goal.

Melksham-based Grapes United continue to set the pace at the top of the table. James Worsley’s side stretched their winning run to 23 matches after they overcame a potential banana skin in the guise of FC Lacock, who went into the game on the back of a four-match winning run that included an excellent cup win over Rowdy Cow Rowde last weekend.

Gary Higdon’s long-range thunderbolt gave Grapes the lead and a second from Higdon early in the second half made it 2-0 before goals from Emilio Menghini and Mikki Harrison killed off any hopes of a Lacock revival.

A week after Oakhill came from 3-0 down to beat FC North Wiltshire 7-4, the sides met again and for a second time it was Oakhill who claimed the spoils courtesy of a 5-0 win.

Conner Laidlaw opened his account for the season with the Oakhill opener Robbie Burton doubled the lead and he scored his second and Oakhill’s third just before half time.

After the break an own goal and a third of the morning from Burton that took his tally to eight for the season made up the winner five.

Sutton Benger moved up to third spot thanks to a 5-1 victory over Miller Sports B.

Benger fell behind to a Ben Cooper goal but after that they took control of things with Ben Butterfield getting them back on level terms before going on to claim a four timer. Chris Miles added the fifth for a Benger side who after losing on the opening day to the Grapes have won two on the spin.
