A PAIR of Wiltshire gymnasts earned their spot in the South West regional squad after polished performances at the National Grades NDP finals in Stoke on Trent.
Martha Green and Jenna Caddy, who qualified for the Staffordshire event in May, placed first and second respectively in the regional competition to confirm their spot in the South West squad.
Green and Caddy’s efforts guided the South West to the Gold Team Medal and title of Team Champions in the 14-strong field.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the duo though, especially Green – whose individual medal hopes were dashed when an unfortunate fall on range and conditioning placed her down the order.
A first place on the floor and second on the bars ensured she recovered well to place fifth out of 55 competitors in her class.
There was better luck for Caddy though, who impressed on the vault and beam to earn a silver medal in her first NDP final.
There were also positive results elsewhere for Alexa Evans and Maya Jakubowski in the Compulsory 3 National Final.
Evans enjoyed a purple patch of form to place seventh while Jakubowski placed 12th despite only competing on three pieces of apparatus due to an injury niggle.
Their efforts meant a four-strong South West team placed sixth in the team competition, which featured teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.
