MARLBOROUGH hammered Grove 58-5 on the Common last weekend in the North Wiltshire side's first game of the newly-founded Regional Two South Central season.

Callum Hunt opened the scoring early on after the winger was set up by newcomer Will Reeve. But the conversion sailed wide as the steady breeze made conditions difficult for the kickers.

Undeterred, Reeve then crossed for his second try after 20 minutes, however, this was also unconverted.

Ben Fulton added a third try after finishing well from the 22 following a couple of sidesteps. Unfortunately for Marlborough, another conversion went wide of the post.

But it was fourth time lucky for the home side - on the conversion front - after Jamie Pittams crossed over the whitewash.

Grove showed admirable spirit to fire back immediately and grab their only points of the game following slack concentration from Marlborough defending a line-out maul.

The warning shot was certainly heard by Marlborough as moments after half-time, the Common outfit won the ball from kick-off and locked on to the Grove try-line.

After five quick phases, Solomone Aniseko brushed aside two defenders to put the ball down over the line. But yet again, the try went unconverted.

As the home side searched for further points, Amori Nailago scooped up the ball following a poor exit kick from Grove. Reeve passed the ball onto Fulton, who scored his second try of the game, and that was converted by Will Grant.

Marlborough added their seventh and eighth tries inside 20 second-half minutes as Aniseko dotted down for the second time in the 55th minute, but Reeve missed the conversion.

Shortly afterwards, Callum Hunt also gained his second try of the game, with a pre-planned move from the line out which was also not converted.

Youngster Dylan Davies scored under the post with his first touch of the ball, before Reeve added two points for just the third time.

The final try of the game came via a piece of individual brilliance by Joe Pittams. He split the defence with a sharp piece of movement before running through and putting the ball down, leading to Reeve converting.

Elsewhere in the division, Swindon lost 29-0 away to Stow-on-the-Wold, and Devizes lost away to 26-36 to Tottonians.
