REGIONAL Two South Central winners Marlborough began their Papa John's Community Challenge Cup campaign with a 48-15 victory over Wiltshire rivals Chippenham last weekend.

The Common outfit struggled in a tight first half which generated two scores apiece but went on to cross six times in the second half to exhibit their superiority in the opening pool game.

It was Chippenham who took the lead on their travels inside three minutes after a well-driven maul - off the back of a sharp line-out - ended with an unconverted try.

The hosts pulled alongside in similar circumstances after Solomone Aniseko finished off a driven maul, but Chippenham pushed ahead once more after dotting down from a kick and chase over the top.

In the final moments of the first half, Marlborough's Callum Hunt - who was only on the pitch due to an injury to Joe Pittams - raced into score. After Will Reeve converted, Marlborough established a 12-10 lead they would never relinquish.

Akariva Seruvatu bagged the first try of the second half after an over-thrown line-out was passed through the hands of Lemeki Moala and Aaron Hold.

Reeve then dispatched a mid-range drop goal to further his personal tally on the day.

Chippenham hit back through an unconverted try in the corner in the 50th minute, but that would be their last success of the afternoon.

From 22-15 to Marlborough, four more tries were added by the hosts to reach the final score of 48-15.

Ollie Spanswick dotted down for a converted score prior to Hunt and Aniseko securing their respective braces. Loketi Manu picked up the final try of the game late on.

Elsewhere, Trowbridge lost 37-12 at home to Truro in Regional Two South Plate Round One. Devizes received a home walkover win against Windsor in the same competition.

In Regional Two South Shield Round One, Swindon lost an extremely high-scoring affair 55-36 away to Cheltenham.
