Gavin Gunning offered updates on the conditions of Harry McKirdy and Saidou Khan ahead of Swindon Town facing Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

The home clash with Rovers will see the continued absence of McKirdy as he continues to recover from the illness that has seen him miss the last two games.

The former Swindon Player of the Season returned on loan from Hibernian in January and has started just once against Harrogate Town as he continues to fully recover from the heart problem and surgery that saw him miss the entirety of the first half of the season in the Scottish Premiership.

Since making his solitary start, an illness has meant that he could not train or play against Mansfield Town and Accrington, but Gunning said that he is improving.

He said: “I don’t think that Harry will be available. He trained today but he is still going to be a bit away.

“He has been ill, so we will take care of him, everyone, me especially, wants him to do really well.

“Everyone at the club loves him, but his health is more important than any football match.”

Swindon are also waiting on the results of a scan on Khan to determine whether he will be fit in time to face Doncaster Rovers after missing Tuesday’s game with an injury.

Only Udoka Godwin-Malife, Frazer Blake-Tracy, and Charlie Austin have played more minutes for Swindon this season than the Gambian international, although he did miss the Stockport County and Tranmere Rovers games with a suspension for having picked up ten yellow cards.

Khan was left out of the Town squad for the midweek defeat to Accrington Stanley with a mystery injury and Gavin Gunning said that he was due to have a scan on it later in the week.

Having missed the game on Tuesday, Khan could also be absent from the game against Doncaster this weekend as Swindon continue to wait and see on the extent of his injury.

When speaking to the press on Thursday afternoon, Gunning said that he was waiting to find out the results of the 28-year-old’s scan before making a call on whether he could be involved on Saturday.

He said: “We are just waiting on Sads, he has an ongoing issue so we are just waiting to see what the situation is with that. Everyone else is ok to go for the weekend.”
