Angling: The final day of the season brought a new six-hour match record for the Bristol Avon in the Lower Bristol Avon Championships, fished at Newbridge on a day when there were 17 weights of over 18lb.

Bathampton coach and match organiser Kevin Dicks hit the jackpot when he drew on a large shoal of bream and proceeded to take an excellent winning weight of 189lb 13oz, taking his catch on feeder-fished worm and red maggots.

Mark Leader from Bath also had a great day to take second prize with another bream catch weighing 92lb 14oz, also taken on feeder-fished worm and red maggots.

Nick Fuidge from Thornbury clinched third prize with another fine net of bream weighing 88lb 11oz, taken on feeder-fished worm.

The pairs prize went to Kevin Dicks and Dave Micklewright of Bathampton Avon Aquatics with ten points.

Other placings: 4 Nathaniel Johnson (Melksham) 80lb 2oz; 5 Mike Withy (Westbury) 76lb 10oz; 6 Phil Harding (Bristol) 68lb 10oz.

The final Wednesday Bathampton Open match at Newbridge also produced good fishing with bream again feeding well.

Top honours went to Derek Coles of Bristol AC with a bream catch weighing 51lb 2oz, taken on feeder-fished red maggots and worm.

Dave Bacon from Bath took second prize with a bream catch weighing 39lb 13oz, also taken on feeder-fished red maggots and worm.

Similar tactics gave third prize to Nathan Hawke of Sensas Bathampton Avon Aquatics with a bream catch weighing 25lb 2oz.

Other placings: 4 Pete Townsend (Swindon) 21lb 13oz; 5 Ray Bazeley (Superseal) 18lb; 6 Kevin Dicks (Sensas Bathampton Avon Aquatics) 12lb 8oz.

The Carps AC match at Bullocks Farm on Wednesday produced very even catches giving a close and exciting result.

Top honours went to Pete Sivell of Dynamite Baits with a mixed catch of carp and silver fish weighing 35lb 14oz, taken alternating with long and short pole-fished pellets and sweetcorn. Dave Wride of Sensas Thyers took the runner-up prize with another carp and silver catch weighing 33lb 6oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.

Tom Thick from Glastonbury was a close third with another mixed catch of silver fish weighing 33lb 4oz, which also won the silver fish award.

Other placings: 4 Andy Curry (Dynamite Frys MG) 22lb 2oz; 5 Mark Owens (Sensas Thyers) 18lb; 6 Charlie Barnes (Thatchers Tackle) 17lb 6oz.

Competitors enjoyed good sport in the Mosella Avalon midweek Open match with carp feeding well.

Top honours on the day went to Martin Lenaghon of Avon Angling with an all-carp catch weighing 88lb 2oz, taken on waggler-fished pellets. Dean Malin of Dynamite Baits pushed him all the way to finish a close runner-up with a carp catch weighing 83lb 1oz, taken alternating with long pole-fished pellets and sweetcorn.

Eric Fouracre from Mosella Sedges took third prize with a mixed catch of carp and silvers weighing 74lb 7oz, which included 19lb 3oz of silvers to scoop the silver fish prize.

Other placings: 4 Steve Skelton (Avon Angling) 62lb 8oz; 5 Tony Rixon (Mosella) 60lb 8oz; 6 Andy Murray 60lb 4 z.

The Wednesday Open match at Viaduct Fishery again produced outstanding sport.

In-form Devizes star Gary Etheridge had another great day to take the honours with a massive carp catch weighing 223lb 7oz, taken on waggler-fished sweetcorn, to leave the rest of the field well behind.

Andy Neal of Fox Baitech was a distant runner-up with a carp catch weighing 85lb 15oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.

Josh Garrett of Maver Veals took third prize with a carp catch weighing 78lb 12oz with Lee Werrett of Fox Baitech in fourth spot with a carp and silvers catch weighing 55lb 2oz.

His silver fish weight of 52lb 3oz took the silver fish prize.

The Dynamite Frys match fished at Withy Pool produced mixed sport. Chris Szakaes of Dynamite Frys MG carried off top prize with an all carp catch weighing 85lb 10oz taken on pole-fished pellets.
