PEWSEY reasserted their credentials as Dorset & Wilts Two North’s form side with a nine-try victory.

After a four week lay-off, both teams were keen to play, though the first half was a soggy affair with little ambition and unforced errors.

From the start Pewsey were on the front foot, getting their first points within two minutes.

Wing Matty Mercer collected the ball from a Melksham clearance kick and ran in from 60 metres out, for a try converted by fly-half Jim Cameron.

Twelve minutes in and Melksham scored a well-worked try, full-back Simmons running a good line and, when he was pulled up 10 metres out, Glover went over for the score. After such a stunning start the game became bogged down in midfield.

Om 30 minutes, a Melksham penalty from fly-half Moore broke the deadlock. Pewsey responded with driving runs being rewarded with a back row try from number eight Ben Pocock, converted by Cameron.

Within seven minutes of the restart new signing back row Connors Hall-Brown had two tries to his name, the first snaffled from a bungled Melksham lineout, the second run in from 20 metres. Cameron converting the first, hitting the upright with the second. The last half hour was all Pewsey. Hooker Jeremy Horton was next to touch down from a driving maul, the result of a well-won lineout. Outside centre James Haynes, playing out on the wing, took the next two scores, the result of impressive backs play and individual pace. Both were converted by Cameron.

Not to be outdone lock Dave Williamson ran in from his own half for Pewsey’s eighth try, followed by flanker Olly Spence doing the same, being awarded a penalty try having been high tackled short of the line.

Cameron added the extras.
