HOPES for a resumption of action in the Wiltshire League Premier Division last weekend were dashed when the thaw arrived too late to save the entire top-flight fixture list, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Many of the clubs have been without a game since mid-December and have even found training difficult to organise.

Reports from many of the grounds were that although the snow had cleared there was still frost in the pitches and would have made conditions dangerous Wiltshire League general secretary Jim Thorne said: “The weather has been bad all over the county.

“The temperatures started rising and the thaw set in but unfortunately too late to get the league programme underway.’’ Clubs will no doubt be hoping the coming weekend will see them back in action where the pick of the fixtures could be at Marlborough.

The home side entertain Premier Division leaders New College.

The Swindon side will probably have fitness on their side but should the home outfit turn on their Wilts Senior Cup form there could be an upset.

Pewsey Vale and Westbury, just a few points behind the leaders, clash at the Vale and they may well have to share the points.

FC Chippenham Youth, one of two sides to have played this year entertain Melksham Town while Devizes, who could do with a good second half of the season, are at home to Shrewton United.

Wroughton take on local rivals Westside and KC’s Club are at home to Purton.
