WESTBURY’S five-week lay-off proved decisive in an evenly -matched contest.
Wimborne having played as recently as the weekend before, started stronger, showing some neat handling in through backs but couldn't break through some determined scrambling defence from Westbury.
As the first half developed it was clear to see that there was little to separate the sides Towards the end of the first half , Westbury were unlucky not to take the lead when the ball fell off the kicking tee as fly-half Chris Vaughan attempted a three-pointer.
The second half started with the same stalemate as the first, but luck finally intervened when Wimborne charged down a kick and the bounce landed kindly for a converted try.
Westbury came back strongly and had a string of penalties 10 metres out, but just couldn't get over the line.
And in the last 15 minutes their lack of game time began to show as Wimborne’s young backs made several telling breaks only to be thwarted by some outstanding cover defence.
Eventually Westbury ran out of defenders and Wimborne managed to score two more tries one of which was converted.
Westbury play Salisbury 2nd on Saturday.
Meanwhile,Dan Hains and Sam McQueen have made appearances for Dorset & Wilts U20 side this season.
