CHIPPENHAM Town defender Steve Casey admits the Bluebirds didn’t turn up in Tuesday night’s defeat to Swindon Supermarine in the Wiltshire Premier Shield.

Chippenham finished with nine men as they crashed out with a 2-1 defeat in the second leg of their semi-final.

Greg Tindle and Ashley Williams saw red at Hardenhuish Park as the Bluebirds lost 6-3 on aggregate.

“No one really came out of the game with any credit, bar Griff (Alan Griffin) up front,” said centre-back Casey.

“It must have been pretty soul-destroying for him up front with ten and nine men and I don’t think we helped ourselves at all.

“I think you could tell that it was a different team to Saturday and we didn’t play at all.”

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes in route one fashion.

Matt Bulman’s goal kick went straight into the path of Ashley Edenborough, who raced through before lobbing the ball over Jamie Bartlett in the Chippenham goal. The Bluebirds’ were dealt another blow only four minutes later when the side’s strength was reduced to just ten men.

Tindle was shown a straight red for a two-footed tackle on Kyle Lapham that left referee Adam Nunn with little choice but to hand the defender and early bath.

Edenborough and former Supermarine man Griffin went close for their repsective sides just before half-time.

On 60 minutes, the ten men of Chippenham were level when Wring’s free-kick from the right-hand side was met by Adams, who headed past a sprawling Bulman.

Midway through the half, Bartlett was left red-faced when his clearance rebounded off Sean Woods and into the goal to restore the visitors’ lead.

The Bluebirds were reduced to nine men on 85 minutes.

Williams reacted angrily after being caught by a tackle from behind and was shown a straight red for an off-the-ball clash.
