GRAHAM Learmonth described his side's performance as "shocking and embarrassing" on Saturday as Biddestone were tamed by lowly Saltash United at Yatton Road.

Errors from full back Jamie Lyons and goalkeeper Chris Snoddy gifted the visitors a two-goal lead before a late Joe O'Chuko header salvaged some pride.

Biddestone have taken giant strides in recent weeks but Saturday's result left a bitter taste for Learmonth, who thought his side had turned the corner.

He said: "We played well for the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes but for the hour in between we were frankly embarrassing.

"To be honest I expected to win this game, but Saltash were strong and well organised. I have never seen anything so poor from one of my teams in all my life."

Joe O'Chuko rattled the crossbar and Dan Lardner fired just wide as Biddestone put their Cornwall opponents on the back foot in the early stages.

Adam Taylor and Kris Beasley both had close-range efforts scrambled away as Saltash repelled the Biddestone pressure.

A mistake from Lyons presented the visitors with the opening goal after 30 minutes and when Snoddy came for a cross he was never going to get, Biddestone were two goals down and limping towards their 15th league defeat of the season.

A late rally from the hosts saw O'Chuko pull a goal back with a powerful header, but Saltash held firm to leapfrog their Wiltshire opponents in the First Division table.
